Awkward Clock Situation

You certainly have no responsibilty to warn your opponent that he is low on time. That's an individual choice.
The proper actions of the director are not clear. I would certainly not be critical of the choice made in a difficult situation. However, looking to the future, it is not clear to me that the choice was correct. If the initial position is set wrong, it stands without adjustment after a certain amount of time has past. If the clocks had been set wrong for both and this error was discovered hours later, should the mistake be corrected? I am inclined to say no by analogy with a mistake in the initial position. If this is the case, the conference would not have been needed.
I don't feel strongly either way about the directors warning a player that he or she is low on time. I am inclined to allow the directors to do so, especially since many players are not yet familiar with clocks. Kibitzers should not say anything of course.
