I was approached about the Nations Cup this past weekend at the Novi ABT event. I was *told* the American team was Senk/O'Laughlin/Wachtel and that we'd be able to enter another team possible under the umbrella of another country? I'm not sure whose toes we have to smash to make things work but it seemed understood that that was the American team that would represent the US.

I don't really care if I play in this at all and I had given it zero thought before it was brought up. I can't say that the team that plays for US now would be stronger than a Kazaross/Koca/Rice/Yep/ composed team.

1) As the Nations Cup is not an open tournament, the committee will dismiss any team that would be considered not strong enough to support its country’s interest. In doing so, the committee will not have to justify its decision.

That is out the window as the team from the previous year has represented the US before and the possible parties listed in the second team rock.

2) If however, several teams of international level remain after the first selection, the committee will proceed to a consultation with those teams. The captain of each team will then be offered to consult with other captains, in a view of deciding which team should play. A play-off match is a possible alternative.

I'm not sure how the play-off match would be composed, do you mean team 1 v. team 2 or perhaps the captains agreed on 2 of the players but not all 3? What if they agree on the 3 players and neither of them is one of the captains, then is that chosen and assigns a new captain?

I don't see a good way of settling this and wonder if other countries also have a problem in this area. Likely they settle it amongst themselves with players ducking out and letting others play. Seems like there might be a better solution is all...
