In this particular case, nothing... it was the finals, and neither of them had anything left to play. I'd be fine with expanded time controls for finals.

Neil replies..I am VERY opposed to expanded time controls for the finals. While this does give the players more time for decisions under pressure, it raises other issues. For example, what happens when one player has booked a flight and is going to be pressed for time to make it even under 2/12? What happens when one player who is really good at fast play lies about having a return flight or appointment or whatever, so that now they play at 2/12 rather than something slower.
