Awkward Clock Situation

What happens if two players write "match to 9" on their scorecard and it is discovered 3/4 of the way through the match that it was supposed to be longer - say to 11? The match length is fixed on the scorecard and is then played to 11 and tough shit if they made any decisions based on an incorrect initial understanding.
It could be argued using the same logic that if the players gave themselves too much time that one of them may have already (and unknowingly) used too much time and should be declared the loser, but that seems harsh. Yet, if they had just finished playing to 13 and became aware it was supposed to be 11, the loser could be retroactively declared the winner if he was in fact the first to 11. I suppose it falls into the category of verify the match length, and verify the time on the clock.
