Growth of backgammon in USA

The Internet has to be one reason. There are lots of places to play online, and discussion forums (like this one) bring a sense of community. Eventually some of the online players want to try the face-to-face game.

Another factor might be that babyboomers who learned the game in college are coming back to it now that their kids are grown up.

It's surprising that poker hasn't taken a bigger bite out of backgammon attendance. But maybe poker wasn't a net negative. Could be that poker attracted many newcomers to the idea of playing strategy games online.

It would be interesting to see similar statistics for games like bridge and chess.
