Yes: poker on TV is good. However, it was adequate even before the holecard-cams.

I was surfing and started to watch the 2008 WSOP reruns. Not all the tables had the cams. What was well done was the editing: all the boring everybody folds hands were gone, and lots of tough decisions were highlighted.

Can we do this with BG: sure. Critical decisions followed by jokers, anti-jokers and joker replies make fine TV: which is to say. "drama." Clocks will help here, as there will be a finite time allowed for the decision and the clock itself adds to the drama.

The biggest issue that I've seen with the BG productions so far is that there are not enough games and critical moments highlighted. I guess with poker that the commentary is after-the-fact, and this should also be true for BG -- allowing more coverage of the game decisions and jokers. Of course, there is an extra cost of the additional cameras needed to capture the simultaneous action -- including player reactions. The WSOB finals gets around this by single threading the matches, which is impractical for normal long-match tourneys.
