A case for clocks - fast rolling

Welcome back!
Obviously you have nobody to blame but yourself for 1) your fast rolling (particularly in a contact position), and 2) your ignorance for the rules. It sounds like you learned the lesson the hard way and will not be repeating those errors any time soon.
4.6 PREMATURE ACTIONS. The opponent of a player who rolls prematurely shall complete his turn and then either let the premature roll stand or require a reroll.
The rules place no specific obligation on your opponent to ask you to stop fast rolling. If they say nothing, they are simply completing their turn and allowing your roll to stand in accordance with the rule. But I am a believer in avoiding ambiguities and believe that a player should ask his opponent to stop any PATTERN of improper behavior. Just because the rules provide for a penalty, does not mean the behavior if repeated should be allowed to persist. A player need not point out an illegal play if he chooses to allow it to stand. He can simply roll the dice and condone the illegal play. But if the opponent keeps making illegal plays and it becomes a pattern, something should be said in my opinion, and if it continues to persist, the director summoned.
But, to your original point - yes, the use of clocks as a semaphore with a single set of dice eliminates all sorts of issues like fast rolling and questions about what number was just rolled.
