I dunno...The Danish Backgammon Federation alone has over 1,000 members. Most of them seem to take the game seriously, playing in regularly in leagues and local/regional tournaments. I would guess that the top 20% of this group are pretty good players. I don't know how many people show up at ABT events...maybe 400? There are US players that only play online or at local clubs, but I doubt the number adds up to more than 600 additional *serious* players. I would actually guess that Denmark is stronger 1-200 than is the US.

But this is pure speculation...no way to test the hypothesis...
