I think Bill is referring to "cleaner" in terms of procedures etc

No disputes on what was rolled (unless the player on move moves the dice without confirming with his opp what was rolled). No fast rolling due to one set of dice..no shaking while the other is thinking, less chance to benefit from substituting loaded dice (since they will be your opp's next turn) etc.
Still the main benefit is minimizing the horrid backups that occur when part of the bracket is 2 or 3 hours slower than the rest.
ABT events are rushed and hurried affairs, unlike something like Monte Carlo with plenty of time. The fact that we have to speed it up here in the USA a bit, may mean that some Champ level players (I've hurried a few plays) may play at a slightly worse ER than without clocks, but so what?
Also, we are referring to Bronstein clocks, rather than analog.
I'll state a few things.
1) I'll never play on analog clocks again (thank god they seem no longer used in US) 2) I'll NEVER play unclocked doubles again. 3) I don't expect to play many unclocks Open Championships next year (they have to be at least clocks preferred..or most likely forget it for me) 4) I WON'T be playing any Masters events that aren't at least clocks preferred next year.
Many here agree with me and I am most certainly not the first to take this "2010 ABT is clocked for Champ level or forget about it stand"
