I've found that the best way to go up from the Fairmont is often to go immediately down. Last year we stayed at the Hotel Alexandra, and the elevator from the beach level took us to that hotel's street--no climbing needed ever. I think a different elevator on that higher street (near the church) gets you to the Diana.
