A good rule of thumb when your opponent has two points open between the 4 and 6 is to take an extra man off at the expense of two extra shots. Depending on the position its anywhere from about even to a couple of percent better to take the man off. You usually can not make more than a tiny, tiny error taking the man off and in the vast majority of cases you will be right.
