Hitting on the 17pt is desirable but not decisive, due to White's defensive anchor. 8/3* 6/3 doesn't do as well in the race, but it leaves fewer returns, equalizes board strength, and preserves our anchor. The threat of White remaking his 8pt with 13/8 is somewhat mitigated since he won't be able to hold that outfield structure for long.
