non-progressive vs progressive consolation

I prefer progressive consolation because that more fairly rewards your performance in the tournament. How sad it would be to win your first 4 or 5 matches and lose in the money round and then, in consolation, have no better chance of winning than someone who lost in the first round? If you win several matches, you have earned the right to be closer to the money.
Part of the proof that players value the consolation more if it is done this way is the number of forfeits...I cannot prove this with actual numbers, but I know that there were times I simply did not play in consolation, opting to do some sightseeing etc., when it was not progressive.
Since most tournaments have a last chance that is not progressive, there is a place with an equal playing field for all to start fresh, if that is what you are hoping for.
