Patrick,

If someone sends you a private email stating: I would prefer it if you never attended ANY event that I am the director of...

What does that mean to you?

If you sent someone an email like that, what would you expect them to do?

Apparently Elayne wants it to be publicly perceived that she has not in fact banned me, but she did, [in fact] send that email.

So, I didn't go to Baltimore last year and I let people here know about it, and it instigated the big brouhaha that others have now reintroduced.

Apparently people still are bothered by it and that is the reason for this current thread. I don't think you should post your "opinion" without consulting ME. I am sure we are tighter than you and Elayne are, though you insist on being tight with her in spite of this whole BS scenario.

For the record: Since Baltimore I have had a call from one of Elayne's club players and a friend of mine... Telling me I am NOT banned, and I am cutting off my nose to spite my face. That person also noted that I am in fact the leading money winner at Elaynes tournaments. How did this person get that information unless it came from Elayne?

Then I got an email recently from Bill Davis, asking if I planned to attend the Florida tournament. At the time I had made no plans to do so... and Bill has been stating to me and others for the last year that I am not officially banned just "not wanted". He dug into the controversy and got that from the horses mouth, I presume. Bill's intent, I believe, was to let me know that I CAN go, if I want to. Elayne is apparently averse to opening that particular door herself.

What is YOUR opinion about THAT, Pat?

Here is mine.

1. I think it is better for the ABT, Elayne, and myself if I attend her events. I want the ABT to survive because I like to compete. People can improve and learn. I can learn to be more tactful and directors can learn how to run an event better.

2. I am leading the ABT and I don't want to miss an opportunity to compete for the title, which is admittedly selfish.

3. I want people like Adam Bennett, who is a fine young man with an astonishing vocabulary, to get the absolute MOST out of their American Backgammon Tour experience. I would never want them to feel that they won their ABT title even partially because the guy ahead of him couldn't play. That is not selfish, because it does something to ensure that Elayne's tournaments will do better. Adam is not the ONLY one who has stated that he would stand behind me like this, btw.

4. All things considered, it looks to me that whether she says so or not Elayne wants this situation to go away. She wants more people to attend her tournaments. I like to go and support every ABT event, including yours, Bill Davis' and anyone else. If I can I try to contribute to the success of those events in any way I can be of assistance. That fact is well established, I think.

So, with all that in mind I made reservations to go to Florida, room and air. I will play doubles with former world champion Lee Genud who has generously offered to pick me up at the airport.

I will be sending full entry fees, by check, to Elayne this week... That way I will have a receipt.

It remains to be seen if I will be allowed to play or not.

Yours truly,

Ray

PS: Thank you Adam for your support and friendship. I have great respect for the stance you have taken on this subject. I hope that my late reversal of tune has not hampered your endeavor to pursue the American Backgammon Tour Championship in 2009.
