I may be wrong about what I post here. Someone can correct me if they would like. I think that the editor often has one or a small number of interesting positions from the match. That position goes into print whether it was played correctly or incorrectly. If the piece rubbed you the wrong way, I understand. But, I don't think that the choice of position should be seen as something the editor wanted to emphasize. It's probably just the position he happened to have. You could test that hypothesis if you would like by looking at back issues to see how often the position in a tournament article was flattering and how often it was an error.
