Oooh, I didn't see this post.

Adam, you are indeed just catching on. Catching on to the fact that Bill LIKES a little controversy. He will post blunders, and give backhanded "insults".... Or at least players perceive them as such. He does NOT mean it... and I am sure he will retract when he reads this.

One time, OTHER READERS wrote in to Bill after he gave me a one sentence note after taking second place in the Ameicas Cup Tournament in 1997:

Ray Fogerlund was crushed by Hugh Sconyers in the Americas Cup final: 15-4.

The Americas Cup took a sidelight to the ABT event, because there was full page coverage of THAT... but it was clearly on the "undercard" to the players.

Meanwhile in another part of the same newsletter, Bill took half a page to detail how he had won the doubles event at Minnesota for the third year in a row, besting a powerful field of 6 other teams or something like that.

I sent him an email "admiring" this feat.

Bill was bummed that anyone could think his intentions were not pure, he just didn't understand that people misunderstood his intent. In short he just doesn't "get it".

Frank Talbot said it best, I think.

After telling me that he took second in a tournament and the ONE play that Bill mentioned was a blunder he made... costing him the title. Frank said:

Well, that's Bill.
