I don't know that we're that far apart conceptually.

I readily advocate that you are one of the absolute best around at 'playing the game'. Are you one of the absolute best from an ER perspective? You're damn good, and I have the bruises to prove it, but I doubt that you would make that claim.

So, my point is we should use a consistent standard to evaluate ER's. But we should also recognize that they give trophies to the winners of the most matches, not to those playing the best ER. I don't think the system needs to be tinkered with to make the two the same.

Facetiously, perhaps we could give trophies to the winner of the most matches, the player with the best ER, to the player who wins the most with the worst ER (some algorithm could be developed), the player with the best wins vs. bad luck ratio, etc. We could dream up a million permutations.

However, I can live with the player with the best ER claiming he/she is the best technical player, and I can live with the player winning the most matches being the tournament champion. I don't think either can necessarily claim to the best overall player from both persectives.
