I just checked the last 10 matches posted on Gammon Village. Most of these were finals matches. So, the players were not average players. This is a strong group. Without weighting for match length or anything else, I calculated an average (mean) ER of 4.9. Again, these are generally strong players in important matches. I would say that this is an (almost) random sample. It is possible that some of the matches would not have been submitted if the ERs were unimpressive. So, it is biased downward if anything. If I do a little of the hand waiving that passes for science in my profession, I would say that the UBK estimate of 6.5 sounds reasonable. It could easily be higher.

Here are the matches for reference. Judge how this group compares to a median player in the Championship division.
