In Response To: How Does Falafel Play at such a High Level? (Marty Storer)

I have paid for lessons from Nack and Kit. Sly lived with me for 9 months and gave me considerable training. Jake, Howard Ring, David Wells, Bob Zavoral, Mary Hickey, Stick, Neil, John O'Hagan, David Rockwell, Mike Corbett, Dana Nazarian, Laila Leonhart have all taken the time to provide me with much excellent advice relative to positions and strategy. But by far, Perry Gartner has been the best teacher and mentor because he has taken the time to go into depth on individual positions and strategies so that I actually understand WHY they are correct, not just WHAT is correct.

While I greatly appreciate and value the advice of all the others named above, Perry's approach is by far the best, in my opinion, and I try to emulate that in teaching the many beginner and intermediate students I have been teaching these past few years. By the way, Perry learned much from Magriel when Magriel lived with him for a while.

With all my years of play and all the great coaching above, and my extensive use of Snowie, I certainly don't compare with Falafel or the greats of the game, so in answer to Perry's post, maybe there is a lot more to playing well than just what you have learned and where you have learned it? Maybe you just have to have the raw talent and IQ to begin with.
