In Response To: please explain... (Chuck Bower)

This is a draw game. You probably know how to play 5 card draw? Like 5 card draw, you are dealt 5 cards. You can, like 5 card draw, draw as many cards as you like. The huge differences from 5 card draw are of course, you get to draw three times. So 5 card draw you bet & draw, that's the end of it. 2-7 triple draw you bet, you draw, you bet, you draw, you bet you draw, you bet!

So we've taken care of the triple draw part of the description, not on to the 2-7 part. First of all, do you know how to play low(ball)? The most normal form of low recognzied by poker players is the type that is played with Razz (which is 7 card stud low only) and Omaha 8 or better (which means to make low the person making the low hand has to have 5 unpaired cards being an 8 or under to qualify for low).

In 2-7 triple draw it takes a different twist. In most low games you don't care if you get a straight, like 23456, or a flush with your low. In 2-7 however these basically make your hand one of the worst hands possible. They count against you, since you're playing low only, you definitely don't want a straight or a flush in 2-7. (which makes how you draw at some hands quite interesting)

Also if you know how to play 'normal lowball' another twist 2-7 has is that aces are now high, as they are in most games. In 'normal lowball' an ace is the best card you can have to help make your hand being the lowest card, in 2-7 triple draw it remains high and is the worst.

So if straights and flushes count against you in 2-7, and aces are not good since they're the highest card there is and you're playing low only, that means the best hand must start with a 2. What's the best hand one can make, playing low, starting with a 2, and not make a straight? 23457. That's the nuts right there. Get that (unsuited obviously!) and it's like having a royal flush. If you know how to play low already I won't have to explain how hands are listed, as in the second best hand being 76432, third best 76532, fourth best 76542, etc. Hope that helps clear it up, feel free to ask any questions as I've never tried to explain the game w/out having the person sitting in front of me (and possibly a deck of cards in hand) I may have butchered the explanation.
