Videotape or manually record the matches?

There is still some ambiguity in the US tournament rules as to whether this is permitted:
1.5 AIDS. Once a match is in progress, players shall not use written, mechanical or electronic aids except to keep score.
I'd certainly like to see this clarified. However, in my opinion, the fact that picture taking, videotaping and third party recording has been officially condoned during match play suggests to me that match recording in and of itself is not considered to be an "aid".
Picture taking (like real-time player match recording) is active rather than passive and often a player wanting to take pictures will ask permission from their opponent. Sometimes they simply presume it is ok. Sometimes they state their intended decision on cube or checker play before taking the picture, sometimes not. There seems to be a general attitude that if there is a clock in use, that you should be able to do whatever you want on your own time. However, certainly we would all agree that you should not be able to enter positions into GNU and run rollouts just because you have the time to do it. Personally, I am fine with all match recording and picture taking on a clock. As far as I'm concerned, recording the match is more distracting to my opponent than to me - just do it on your own time, and don't argue that the TC is too tight because of this.
I'd like to see clarification in the form of written rules on these matters.
