Doesn't this assume that Elo differentials are fixed and accurate? If so, and given that ratings are not fixed, you'd need to factor in the variability of each player's rating.

The assumption is that there is a static 50 point difference between the players.

If I am playing somebody who is rated 50 points higher than me and I lose, the gap between our skill doesn't widen.
