I use Snowie so I don't know how this relates to GNU users.

At one time I played all of my practice matches against Snowie 3-ply but found it not good because all of Snowie's cubes were so efficient I got used to taking everything.

Now I play against Snowie 1-ply which seems to give a much more 'human opponent' experience and is more helpful and instructive, I think.
