Consider a simpler version of the question. Suppose there are 6 players.

Choice A: A vs B and C vs D in top half of bracket. C and D get a bye in first round and start the second round match.

Choice B: In first round A vs B and C vs D and E vs F. Of those three winners the winner of E vs F gets a bye inti the finals.

They are the same tournament structure. The bye occurring in the first roud or second round is just an illusion of how the sheet is drawn. The best player is equally likely to win in either setup. He has to either win 3 in a row if in top half or 2 in a row if in the bopttom half.

I agree though that in option A that all players have an equal 1/3 rd chance of getting the bye and that in the second option that the best player has a better chance of getting the bye than any other player in the tournamnet. But that is not the relevant issue. The chance of the best player winning the tournament is.
