Ok, for the purposes of developing a useful shorthand notation for opening positions, maybe its worth persevering with it. Chess has an opening shorthand based on naming variations (e.g. The French Defense, Winawer, 7Qg4), but that idea won't work for Backgammon. It's only worth developing a BG shorthand if everybody will embrace it, otherwise it's just more confusing.
