I assume this is a 4 player round robin modified so that a 2-0 or 0-2 player stops play. It is possible in true rr to have 3 players with a 2-1 record and 1 with 0-3. This scheme avoids that situation. It also avoids the situation where an eliminated player can effect the outcome bases on bias.
