Extras in chouettes

"the renegade will usually just lose more money instead of being vindicated" is a statement that is, in my opinion, statistically wrong. In the long run, if he is right about the take, he will make more money, and if he is wrong, he will lose more.
It makes no sense to play the position separately. In our chouettes in Chicago, we use extras to allow those people out of the game to have action instead of having to sit there and watch one player "gamble" for the box while the rest of us sit out. We even play that if there is no contact, a renegade may take alone without having to take extras.
If two people feel strongly about a position, the way we settle it is with a bet. We put the position in GNU or Extreme, do a quick rollout, and if the difference is greater than .02 the bet is settled (usually for 1 point).
The only reason not to offer an extra is if the person playing on my side is a much weaker player and the position is likely to be complicated to play.
