The candidates look to be: A) 13/5 B) 13/10 6/1x C) 6/4x 4/1 D) 8/3 6/3 E) 13/8 6/3. C looks to be the worst of these, so take it off the list. A looks a little too pedestrian ATS. You're not that big a game fav after this play and you haven't done anything to up your gammon chances. B probably gives you the best gammon chances but 14 shots and 2 blots = probably the most losses as well. It's real good if White cooperates by dancing and pretty good if he enters without hitting. D looks good. Makes the best 4-point board while leaving just 11 shots. You rate to have several gammonish return hits from the bar if White does hit but your g chances go way down if he gets a 6 (which he'll play 24/18). If White doesn't get a 6 or a 1, you might (with a little luck) be able to attack this checker and close your board. E leaves 12 shots and a fine distribution but fails to make a 4-point board. It also gives White eleven 6s to jump out to the 18 to almost eliminate your gammon chances. Your g's therefore mainly come from the other 13/36 numbers.

I like making the 3-point: 8/3 6/3.
