definitive solution for dice cheating

I have watched tapes on dice mechanics; I have seen demonstrations of mechanics. My conclusion is the same as with card mechanics: if they are really good, they are virtually impossible to detect. And if they are smart, they will only cheat on a few, key rolls, and even if you see it and know they palmed a die or rolled it out illegally, you couldn't prove it.
The best defense is technology, and that includes baffle boxes and dice in enclosed glass or plastic cases, said dice and cases provided by the tournament director. Or an assigned roller, again appointed by the director, to roll for both parties.
The point is, wherever there is money, there will be cheaters. And there will even be some relatively honest people who could be tempted if there was enough money involved and if they were desperate enough and if they thought there was little chance of getting caught. Once we recognize and admit this, and admit it is difficult to catch people and even more difficult to ban "suspected" cheaters (for ethical and legal reasons), then we need to improve the technology to make it nearly impossible to cheat.
