Doubling against chess players

In Response To: Falafel Cube Decision from Georgia Part II (Stick)
I find it interesting that Stick mentioned that Felafel's opponent was a chess player. Is there some relevance to the cube action? The best guess I have is that chess players have lots of practice playing with a clock so they are perhaps less likely to go to pieces in time pressure than a backgammon player of equivalent strength who lacks such experience.
