Those are very good suggestions Chuck! I agree clock settings should be variable as are match lengths and should depend upon the time needed to complete the round. Data needs to be generated to determine what appropriate settings are. Maybe a poll conducted among players at each ABT event would help as well. After all, are we not after what is going to make the most people happy as well as insure timely completion of matches? I think those two goals are very compatible.

I also agree that doubles need even more time. Doubles is a social event. It is for discussing moves in a partnership and for weaker players to learn how stronger players think. It is good for the game. With too strict time controls you don't get that teaching or comraderie benefit that many enjoy. I strongly agree that clocks are needed, just allow enough time for the intent of the event.
