I got backgammoned in Los Angeles one time, when my opponent hit my 15th checker, the other 14 having made it to my home board.
Sam Pottle will remember this for two reasons.
1. He was the one who backgammoned me, despite the fact that he never closed his board! When he hit me his 5 point was open and he was never able to close it. I think I made it to his 3 point before he backgammoned me... and I just about went through the roof.
2. He lost the match even though the backgammon got him to Crawford, I got lucky and won anyway.
