Maybe GNU understands something you don't? When someone doubles me and the Jacoby rule is active, I know they must do so to activate gammons, but if there were no Jacoby rule, I know they are doubling me because they really feel I am a terrible player and I am likely to take a horrible position where there is huge potential to gammon, even though they didn't have to double me to get the gammon. So I might feel much more inclined to drop in the second case, and GNU is smart enough to know that. So maybe you aren't better than GNU after all.
