In both 0-ply and 2-ply, the positions fed to the NN (either after zero rolls or after two rolls) are from the same player's point of view. In a 1-ply evaluation, the positions fed to the NN are from the other player's point of view. Those positions look completely different to the NN.

With training, the NN might learn that two white checkers on the 20-point are just as good as two black checkers on the 5-point are bad. But this result is not guaranteed, esp if the training is focused on relative equities rather than absolute equities.
