depth vs breadth

This opens old wounds. I know that for years people have wanted some kind of common interface so bots could compete head-to-head quickly.
Yes, yes, yes. There is a bot that is able (and does) host several AIs (TachiAI, Aigammon, Eggammon, pubeval, guru but I have no rights to publish them and I did all the integration code and porting to Java). The interest seems to be very low. Really weird. And even old heroes aren't interested. Wouldn't it be nice having mloner or TD-Gammon running on your PC and compare with current bots? Neither author is interested (to make that sure: I would have supported them, write the integration code accept any disclosure agreement and leave it totally to the authors how to publish it, so it was IMHO a very fair offer) And it is a lot easier to write an AI than to write a full client.
(From what I know Dueler is slow because it has to pattern recognize checkers being moved on a screen! That's not a slam at dueler as this was the best way to handle a heels-dug in situation.)
Dueller also supports a TCP/IP protocol. I discussed that with Tony, he designed it and I implemented it in BGB. If Tony is asked, he might make the specification publicly available and add support for further bots (and fix some quirks with the latest BGB ;))
