There are some information that is left implicit in the puzzle, but that still needs to hold in order for the solution to work. What is covered is:

  • "There is a firmly held tradition...etc", this must of course be taken to mean that there is no doubt that they will actually commit suicide.
  • "all of them are extremely good at logic", meaning that all can work out the induction proof, or otherwise deduce when the suicides will take place
  • "and thay all know that", the proof depend on this knowledge

    Now what's missing, first a small nitpick, it is not really sufficient that "they all know that all are good at logic", they must also know that all know it, and know that all know that all know it, ...etc. However, we accept without further ado that the original "they all know that" also includes this implicit recursion.

    A more tangible detail left out is that they must know the eye color of all the inhabitants on the island. And again they must know that all know it, and that all know that all know and....etc. etc. you know the drill.
