A few thousand years ago, my ancestors in the Middle East...well Armenia..or what is eastern Turkey today, understood how to play without a clock.
They used one set of dice !! When you took your hand off the last piece to be moved your turn was OVER.. PERIOD. Then your opp grabs the dice and rolls (unless you've made an illegal move and noting there's no dispute on what was rolled since the dice are still down).
Gee..a novel concept ? One set of dice and your turn ends when you've taken your hand off the last piece moved ! Formal play was also touch move..mmmmm.. no checker shuffling BS to be concerned about !!
I guess it was we Americans who, when BG become popular in some well to do private clubs in NYC and the east in the late 20's who took a great game that had lasted millennia and fucked it up by using a set of dice for each player and stupidity like calling a roll cocked when the dice land on a checker .. etc etc.
Anyhow, I won't be concerned about playing w/out a clock next year either in ABT events or should I decide to travel to play.
