Chouette Debate

In Response To: Chouette Debate (Steve Mellen)

With over 30 years experience in non-consulting chouettes, I am of the strong opinion that they are much better for the stronger players because:

(1)The games are played much faster. More games played equal more points per hour. Everyone likes to play. Waiting too long for your turn can get very boring.;

(2)It is much better, especially when there are exactly two, for the stronger players not to be controlling the play against each other. There are many situations that the strong players can take advantage of such as doubling a weak player when it would theoretically be worth 1/2 to 3/4 of a point against an equal and watching the field squirm and make, often, poor decisions because of fear. I realize that there are also situations where the strong player benefits in consulting-after-the-cube-choues but I think there are fewer of them and they are more marginal in terms of equity gained.

(3)There is too much bickering in consulting choues. Players may occasionally complain in non-consulting choues about bad play, after the fact, but it is a complaint or statement, not a time delaying argument, for the most part.
