The software would likely have to put some constraints on how you do the recording. Possible constraints might be:

  • camera directly above the board,
  • good lighting
  • an HD recorder,
  • specific dice: eg, nontranslucent, distinctive color from board and checkers, white pips

In good enough conditions, I think you'd be able to read the dice with software.
