Backgammon community loses a great one...

I saw the signature of the previous post and hoped for just a moment that Walter had somehow saved the ultimate gammon.
I first got to know Walter about twenty years ago. Both of us liked to unwind with a Heineken or two, and we'd usually spend a lot of time together in the bar of the Novi Hilton, the Keystone at the Crossing Sheraton, the Wyndham ... Pick a tournament, and fill in the blank.
Nearly fifteen years ago I decided the world needed a book on cube decisions in matches between mismatched opponents. I don't remember what question I first bounced off Walter, but it turned out that he had written MEG (the Match Equity Generator) which could create custom ME tables, and included variables for the skill levels of the opponents. Without MEG Can A Fish Taste Twice As Good? would never have been written, and without Walter it would not have been the book it is.
I learned a lot from Walter during the year and a half of our collaboration, and consider myself privileged to have had that opportunity.
I'll miss him.
