Everyone knows there are ten blue eyed islanders. The oracle has given no new information. The fact that the blue eyed islanders have not committed suicide before the oracle's statement suggests that for some reason they previously chose not to pursue their own eye color, for even without the statement the ten with blue eyes only need to count the eye colors of the remaining islanders to find that they are among the ten. Perhaps, since they are so logical, they have set up a system where it is not possible for any islander to know the eye color of all other islanders, for to know could lead to the discovery of their own eye color and death.
