What does it take to become really great comprehensive knowledge of the game?

Experience and the desire to succeed at the game. There are, even in bg, other intangibles just like every other game.

One way of look at it, lets say I pick a person on my street and coach her for a year full-time. What is the difference between her and Stick, Niel,Chuck (all other not mentioned).

A year isn't enough time unless this person has a lot more free time than a normal person and completely dedicates herself to the game.
