In Response To: bearing off against the 24-point (Chuck Bower)
This looks similar to a position in Robertie's 501 Essential Backgammon Problems where he says that the correct play is to clear the 5-point: 5/2 5/3. Of course it's not exactly the same position so maybe I'm drawing an incorrect analogy (or maybe Robertie was wrong!). But it seems to me that playing safe for the next few rolls (until White's position starts to deteriorate) is the main priority, and 5/2 5/3 looks like the safest play to me, so that's what I would play.
