Another Issue for Tournament Directors

1. I am always willing to be on top, backgammon or otherwise. 2. when we play on my laptop, we each have our own mouse (or they use a mouse and I use the touchpad). 3. I have no objection to a neutral party controlling the mouse and the players each state their plays (and say roll or double before each move) 3. Two computers and playing on a site is a great idea 4. Yes, we sit side-by-side, but not arm-in-arm--there is never a problem finding a spot to do this 5. A clock could easily be used and placed between the players
You are correct that these, and other issues will come up, and they can all be easily resolved without conflict.
I appreciate your giving this so much thought, and would appreciate even more your support to convince players and directors to do this more often. I currently play almost all my matches at Bill Davis' Tuesday night club on the computer (unless the other player objects) and there are always people crowding around and watching....it really does make the match more interesting to know that any play anyone questions will get resolved once the match is over. And its always interesting to see what the ELO of the players are.
Here is the ONLY problem I have with playing on the computer: when there is a great difference in the ability level of the players, you don't always want to make the "right" play, and you might be torn between making a play that you believe helps your ELO (or ER) and making the play that gives you an advantage over your opponent. (e.g. giving a cube when it is too good because you think he might take; or dropping a pure race against an inferior player even though you would take it against a Giant.)
So when I do play with someone much better or worse, I STILL like to play on the computer--I just don't worry about why my ELO is. Also, it helps me check those kinds of decisions to see if my thinking was right about whether it really was a take or a drop or a cube etc.
