I wrote: An advertiser is not going to pay for an ad on a page that nobody visits.

Matt Cohn-Geier responded: Why not? They want a link on a thread that has been dead since 2007.

Just because the thread is not active doesn't mean people won't be drawn to visit it via a Google search.
