Phil "I don't think players should be allowed to have the pip counter on, as estimating and counting pips is one of the important skills required to play well when you are playing live or in a tournament."

Neil replies that he'd withdraw from and boycott any live event if someone was allowed to play on a comp with the pip counter turned on. It is not that fact that it isn't fair to both players if both agree to have it on.. of course it is fair to both. But the issue is that it isn't fair to the rest of the field who has to spend mental energy taking a few hundred pip counts over the course of the weekend.
