My first instinct was to play 21-9(2) and my first instincts are usually right. I liked that play for the same reasons Richard has mentioned. Then I thought about the fact that he had four men on the eight and that I could win a fair number of gammons without picking up another man if he never moved again and considered 7-1(2) and 21-9. I realized that play was very dangerous if he rolled 4-4, but felt that with any other roll I was not in very bad shape and settled on this play as my first choice, with 21-9(2) being my second choice.

You have probably guessed what happened, he rolled double 4's and we danced and he doubled us out, being close to, if not, too good. The next game everyone was steamed as was he and we all accepted cubes ranging from 2(me) to as high as 8. When he doubled prematurely, after an opening 3-1 followed by our 6-2(18,11), he pounded us with a 6-6 and went on to win a 72 point gammon and said soon as the last checker was borne off; 'bye, bye I've had fun, bye, bye!

BTW, I will post the rollout of the 6-6 play later, but the results were interesting.
