This is a 2-ply rollout. I will do a 3-ply rollout as well. What can be learned by the running play finishing ahead of 21-9(2)? This play takes away the some of the freak vig that keeping a man back would give and could lead, if he rolls a three, to all three of the non-home board quadrants being covered by one or more checkers. The downside to this play is that it rated to get fewer gammons because: (1) it may allow consolidation of the opponents position somewhat while concentrating on priming him; (2)because you are much less likely to pick up extra checkers. I think it illustrates that is rarely wrong, or wrong by much, to make the play that rates to win the game the most, even when your opponent has a very awkward position.
