Badger (Masters) Results, nice job tournament staff

The Badger was again this year like last only filled to 24 players. So this was played as 3 groups of 8 down to 3 finalists. As Adam stated, those were me, Gary Bauer and Ed O.

The directors decided that there would be an even split of the prize pool and it was left to the 3 players how to battle it out for the trophys which consisted of a rather large and nicely made standard trophy cup and a nice stuffed badger (no animals were harmed in the making of this award).

Well Ed had no interest in lugging home any dust collectors, Gary wanted the trophy and I thought the badger would finally give me something nice to bring home for the kids from a backgammon weekend for a change. So we just divided the loot and everyone was happy.

There was no playoff match for the final 3 and it was stated that the result would be reported as an equal split of 1,2,3.

I should mention that the staff held an extremely well run event in my opinion. Everything was smooth. They were well organized and made proper decisions. Everyone knew exactly what to expect.

I also want to applaud the decision to make clocks on request in the main event (Open) and clocks mandatory in the Masters. I played all of my matches with a clock as did several others. There were no problems at all with clocks from what I saw. From a discussion with Tom (director), it seemed likely that Doubles would likely be "clocks required" next year. He said that he was waiting to see how clocked doubles went in Michigan before deciding on clocking of doubles in Madison, but the Madison brochures were already printed by then (without clocks in Doubles), so any change would take place starting next year.

Again, great job everyone!
