Steve Brown is a very fine player from Minneapolis who made it to the finals of two tournaments last year, including Madison. I have no problem with who they seeded...they were clearly among the best players, but if they had also seeded O'Hagan and O'Laughlin then I would have said that they seeded all the best players there...they simply left two off. A reasonable argument could be made for seeing several other players (Mary Hickey would be one of my choices), but there is no reasonable argument not to seed John O'Hagan in particular. People who know backgammon would certainly put John high on the list of the best players in the U.S. Personally, I was happy they didn't seed him so it made sense to buy him along with three other players...certainly any of them could have won as well.

We made a lot more money on the only other team we bought which had, in my opinion, four of the best non-seeded players (other than O and O): Tak, Herb, Bruce Russell, and Mary. With Tak and Mary meeting in the finals, it certainly proved my point.
